Upon arrival in Barcelona I had about 6 hours to kill before my friend was able to meet me. I took the train from the airport into the city center (about 20 minutes), changing trains once to make it there. It was recommended I get off at the Estacio de Franca stop where there is a beautiful building and access to a park and the sea side. I wandered around a bit and, to my surprise, stumbled upon the Barcelona Zoo! I gladly paid the 16 euro entrance fee and spent the rest of the afternoon watching the animals and watching people. I was enthralled by these animals, and even teared up a bit when I watched a few.

Here are highlights in note form from that day, and photos :

Oh Hai!
1. Crazy peacocks that roam around and beg for food like pidgeons. “Say hi to ya motha for me, aight?”

Peacock, after it jumped over a fence to beg.
2. A newborn baby wildabeast, learning how to walk. He stumbled around, even fell on his back but his family rallied around him and helped out. By the time I left the zoo I noticed him up and about, even trying to run! Way to go baby!

Baby wildabeast, right after it fell trying to walk.
3. Man letting his little boy drive their golf cart so he could light a cigarette in the back seat.
4. A dolphin show completely in Catalan that I didn’t understand but it was great to watch. There were huge groups of children there (summer camps, I think) and they were loving it. And I loved watching them having fun and laughing…made me miss my kids :/.

5. Giraffe eating out of a tree with his huge black tongue sticking out…

Don't fall in the quicksand!!
6. Tiny turtle hanging taking a ride on the back of a tiny alligator.

Nature.
7. Mountain goat who didn’t want me taking his picture, so he gave me the evil eye real close and then went to the bathroom. I see what you did there, goat.

I really like your beard, goat.
8. The feeling of having so many things to say to people, and not being able to say them. It’s strange.

NOW we’re talkin’ POSTS! Good job. GREAT pictures and cute notes; good writing, too – glad to see you take after someone in the family. (LOL) We assumed the problems you were having were technological in nature and here we are proven right. Not surprising and also not surprising that you had to find new ways to overcome…and did. Yay you! Got your note regarding Jake…yeah, we’re picking him up today and the doc says he’ll be a “new dog” in two weeks. I don’t know if we really need an all-new dog but the old one coming back would be pretty cool. Speaking of cool, it’s not here in Auburn, Al….95 degree heat and a heat index, including humidity, of 105. Keep the communication up…love it!
Awright!! No hiding out at the airport waiting to be rescued, but plunging ahead full speed into your European adventure – PERFECT! You are what’s happening! Love you.
The picture captions are hilarious.
Yeah they are!
